Arranging a Visit
Schools and organizations interested in arranging a visit from Kate Salley Palmer should contact Jim Palmer to begin working out the logistics and planning for the visit. You can get in touch by e-mail, telephone, fax, "snail mail," or by filling out the form at the bottom of this page. It's best to contact Jim at least two months ahead of the anticipated visit date to be sure dates are available and the proper arrangements can be made.
Once a date is confirmed, Jim will send you a packet contain containing the following:
- An agreement or contract, to be signed by both Jim and the school or organization representative. The contract will confirm the date and nature of the visit, the agreed-upon number of presentations, and the fee structure.
- Color copies of all the book covers, plus a bio and picture of Kate for promo purposes.
- An order form that can be used for all book orders.
Fees
For one group at a school, conference, or other gathering, Kate's speaker fee is $300, plus expenses. For up to three groups, her fee is $500, plus expenses. For the all-day fee of $500 at a school author visit, Kate will also, if the school is interested, stay after school to visit with the teachers.
Travel expenses include meals for Kate, lodging (if more than a 100-mile drive from Clemson), and mileage (35 cents per mile).
Note: If we are allowed to sell books, a 10% rebate for all books sold will be given back to the school or organization. Also, if a school wishes to purchase books for the library and/or teachers, Warbranch Press will offer a 10% discount.
Presentation Requirements
Kate will need a room that can be darkened sufficiently for the audience to see her pictures. Also, for large groups a good PA system is a must. Kate will bring an LCD projector and a computer for her Powerpoint presentation. She can also bring original artwork and book printer proofs to show the audience how a book is printed and published.
Kate shares her stories and the people and places that inspired them, but she also tells about how she gets her ideas. Her presentations are around 40-45 minutes long. When speaking at schools, she usually reads one or two or her picture books, depending on the grade level and/or prior discussions with the teacher in charge. It's very important for the teachers and students attending Kate's presentations to have already read her books. That way, there is more opportunity for interaction and for questions to be answered.
