| James H. Palmer, Jr., grew up in Clemson, SC. He is a graduate of Clemson University, where he majored in English and minored in drama. These days, he is a graphic artist with The Graphic Cow in Liberty, SC. He works off-site most of the time from his home in Atlanta, where he lives with his wife, Mandy, their son, Leo, and family pets Maggie the dog and Frodo the cat.
In addition to his work for The Graphic Cow, James freelances part-time in the Atlanta area for various magazines and other publications. James’s fine artwork has appeared in galleries and other exhibitions in Atlanta.
In January 2005, James wrote, illustrated, and co-produced Chasing the Swamp Fox, a documentary about Francis Marion for South Carolina’s public television network, SCETV. Fellow Clemson native and Clemson University graduate Sanford Adams, a producer at SCETV, directed and co-produced the project. The documentary has been aired several times under SCETV’s regular series Carolina Stories and is available for purchase from ETV’s online store, www.etvstore.org. James’s meticulous research gave his computer artwork an authenticity that made Marion and his men come alive in moss-draped shadows and fiery battle. The book Francis Marion and the Legend of the Swamp Fox was a natural outgrowth of his work on the documentary.
James is currently illustrating two more picture books for Warbranch Press—one about South Carolina agriculture, and another entitled The Very Talented Baby—both written by his mother, Kate Salley Palmer. He can be reached at jpalmer@mindspring.com. |
