What's going on at Warbranch Press
This is our new website. We hope you like it and will use it to find out about Kate and her books, and about us as an independent publisher. The folks at Engenius have been great to work with and we appreciate all their help with the construction and launch of the site.
It's still a work in progress as you will see. If you have suggestions on improvements, please don't hesitate to contact me (jim@warbranchpress.com).
Kate is still recovering from her recent back surgery, and has already resumed work on her new book about the Native Americans of South Carolina. We're on vacation the next couple of weeks, but will be back in business the last week of this month.
Re: the new book - Kate recently made a trip to Cherokee to do research for the book, and will be making a trip to the Rock Hill area to learn more about the Catawbas real soon. She is also reading and studing lots of books that will help her with the story. The story, she says, will be about how the Native Americans of South Carolina lived prior to European contacts. And, she plans on spending a good portion of the book describing the coastal tribes, like the Waccamaw, the Santee, the Edisto, the Coosaw, the Kiawah, et. al.
Our son, James, who illustrated the Swamp Fox book for us, will be doing the illustrations for the new book, and he's anxious to get started as soon as his mom gets the actual story underway. He's currently doing some free lance artwork for a large textbook company about the Western Native Americans.
So, again, if you have suggestions or comments about our books, about Kate or about the new book, please get back in touch. We want to hear from you! Jim Palmer
What people are saying!

"I teach my students that as writers we write best about what we know - the places, people and the stories that shape who we are. In our writing workshop, the authors of well-crafted children's literature are my best co-teachers. Kate Salley Palmer is one of the best, and I couldn't teach writing with a sense of place without her."
Dawn Mitchell, Teacher Consultant, Spartanburg (SC) Writing Project

"Seldom do books come along that enhance teaching and learning about history like those by Kate Salley Palmer"
Jane Harrison, Director of Elementary Education, Anderson (SC) School District One

"The story of our state comes alive in Kate Salley Palmer's books, Palmetto - Symbol of Courage and Francis Marion and the Legend of the Swamp Fox. Her books allow our students to explore a new aspect of our history. I look forward to each new release from Kate. Her efforts are enhancing the range of children's literature available to our students and teachers and increase their knowledge of South Carolina history and culture."
James Bryan, Education Consultant, Columbia, SC
